to Find Sheet Music on the Internet
It's really quite amazing how many requests we
get for help finding sheet music. It takes a lot of time to search, so we thought we'd tell you exactly the process
we go through to find sheet music on the Internet ourselves. Then you can use these tips on your own.
Obviously, most of you are searching for free sheet music. Do be aware that If
you're looking for a particular popular or contemporary piece, it's unlikely that you will find free sheet music available. It's not impossible,
but it is difficult. free Classical sheet music, most of which is under public domain, is much easier to find that
popular radio tunes.
Here are some basic steps we'd suggest to try and find what you're looking for. This is the exact process we use
to find what we want:
The 'Guide'
1) Make use of The Free
Sheet Music Guide's listings. The whole reason we
put this comprehensive

Any important web site offering free sheet music is listed
it our directory. Find
one that looks like it might contain similar music to what you're search for, then go explore it. It does take
some time and research, but the result is often rewarding.
The Tab Shortcut
2) Your second option, and perhaps the easiest if you're looking for popular music, is to find guitar tablature for the song you want. Even if you're a pianist,
you can make use of most guitar tablature if you are skilled in improvisation (See our FAQ for details). Tablature
gives you the lyric and the chords for the song. What is particularly appealing about this option is that guitar
tablature is available for almost any popular song you might want. One of the biggest guitar tab search tools we know of is
Tab Robot, which searches over 850,000 tabs on the Internet. It's one of the quickest ways
to see if the tab you are looking for is out there. You can also browse our own

UseNet Search
3) If you're looking for a particular piece of popular music, chances are someone else has looked for it as well.
If so, you may be able to find out using the Google Usenet search tool. This tool
makes it very easy to search Internet discussion group archives dating back several years. Search by song title,
artist or composer to find discussions containing references to sheet music for your song. By browsing discussions
in this way you may find someone else who has searched, and found the very same music you're looking for.

4) If you find it frustrating looking for a particular song, why
